Getting Involved for the Students — GIFTS

Many parent involvement opportunities exist at John Knox. Specific involvement reminders will be shared through regular school communication, but NEW THIS YEAR, the OnVolunteers Parent Involvement Program is now the main portal for both sharing parent involvement opportunities and tracking tasks and activities as they are completed.

GIFTS

• In recognition of the significance that parent involvement brings to the school, one hour of service is valued at $25 per hour, with the total value of service equaling $500 for a full-time family (20 hours/year).

• Families will be asked to indicate whether they will opt in or out of the GIFTS Parent Involvement Program when they receive their tuition invoice from the Finance Committee.

• If they decide to opt out, $500 must be added to the invoice for a full-time family;
   $375 if you have a child in ‘part time’ SK only.
  $250 if you have a child in ‘part time’ JK only.
  $250 if you are a single-parent family.

• Families that opt in are required to complete and track their service hours by the end of the school’s fiscal year (July 31st).  Invoices will be issued for any uncompleted hours.

• Parents are expected to track their parent involvement tasks using the OnVolunteers Parent Involvement Program. All parents will be provided with dedicated login credentials for the system.

• One of the goals of the GIFTS Parent Involvement Program is to encourage parental involvement in the life of the school. For this reason, hours completed by an extended family member (grandparent, etc.) on your behalf are worth 50% of the hours completed.

• Due to the CRA rules and regulations, Parent Involvement hours served at Encore Thrift Store cannot be credited as JKCS GIFTS hours. Having said this, parents are strongly encouraged to volunteer at the Encore Thrift Store, as their generous donations help to enhance the learning at JKCS.  

Once the required number of hours has been achieved, the tracking may stop, unless volunteers wish to continue for their own reasons. If you have any questions about the GIFTS program, please contact Christine Soultanidis, Principal, csoultanidis@bramptonjkcs.org.
