Anita Woudstra
Grade 7 Teacher
I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a young girl. In fact, I started practicing already then – I had a classroom set up in my basement, where I taught my dolls and even my younger sister. I attended Redeemer University and Calvin College, graduating with a triple minor (education, language arts, and math).
I grew up in Georgetown, where I still live with my husband and 2 daughters. We enjoy traveling, cottaging, and spending time with immediate and extended family. We are active members of the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church. I enjoy playing guitar and singing – I learned to play guitar when I was 6 years old.
I’ve been teaching at JKCS for over 30 years. I’ve taught grades 3-8 during that time, and there are things about each grade level that I love. I have a passion for math, so I especially enjoyed the years that I taught exclusively math to grades 6-8. I love the John Knox community. The staff is truly a team that enjoys learning together and sharing our joys and sorrows with each other. I feel loved and supported by this community. I’m excited when I walk into the building each day.
The students bring so much joy to my life. Building relationships with them is my favourite part of teaching. I love the fun and silly times we have together, but also the more serious times of building faith and teaching life skills. My greatest desire is that the students enjoy life to the fullest, a life built in the Lord. I feel truly blessed to be part of instilling that desire in them.
